Anberlinchic's Profile

The Demigod stares my direction, and I can't fully tell but it seems like he's staring through me, trying to remember...

"It was just a few days ago...

The moon and I were walking...as we do every day... I've known her such a long time. Her gentle light is calming and her heart is pure.
The sun is jealous though. His light is too harsh and drowns her out. I protect her, and every day she hides behind me to shield her tender light from the sun.

We didn't know, but the sun had devised a plan.

Our walk is the same every day. We start in the Appalachian mountains, work our way across the ocean to the deserts of Africa, and back up to the Great Wall of China, up through the cold wilds and back down to the mountains, where we rest. But that day...
The sun is usually far behind us, trying to catch up. But that day... he had waited. The moon and I walked. Normally we would have talked - about seasons, the flowers, what the animals were doing - but today felt different. I remember the moon glanced wearily behind her, but neither of us could see anything amiss. I thought I can gather some cherry blossoms from the mountains to cheer her up, so like a fool... i left her on the path.

I didn't know...

The sun, lying in wait for his moment, saw. Like a starving vulture, he swooped down, and when she screamed, I desperately fled to where I'd left her. He was pulling her down the path, willing her to walk with him. Angry, I ran and tackled him, the fire scorching my fur and blinding my eyes. Biting - scratching - I managed to overtake him and throw him back into the sky and away from us. Exhausted, I crept to the moon, as she lay crying. My fur, once a warm navy, was now a bright yellow and my eyes glowed but I couldn't see.
I knew that I too... was now too bright for her to walk with anymore. Tears fell from my eyes and with the last of my strength, I threw her to safety on the other side of the sky. Because, even though we could no longer walk together, I would stand between her and the sun, bearing the scars of our constant struggle.
